First win of the season for the San Jose State Spartans!
The Spartans are now 1-3 (1-1 WAC). It was an exciting 34-24 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies. The Spartan offense was led by senior Brandon Rutley with 209 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He became the first player in seven years to rush for more than 200 yards. Rutley’s 66-yard run in the first quarter put the Spartans on top 7-3. The Aggies capitalized on a Spartan fumble, gaining possession at SJSU’s 45. Aggies QB Matt Christian complete a pass to Kenny Turner for a touchdown, the score now 10-7 New Mexico. At the half, it was tied 10-10 after a 42-yard field goal from Spartan kicker Jans Alvernik. The third was a battle, each team scoring two touchdowns. On the second play of the the third, Spartan QB Matt Faulkner found Ryan Otten for a 64-yard touchdown. New Mexico quickly answered after a five play scoring drive and rushing TD from Christian.
