NFL Week 10

The San Francisco 49ers are simply unstoppable, beating down the New York Giants in a 27-20 victory

The Niners move to 8-1 and hold a commanding lead in the NFL West. This victory came without the help of star running back, Frank Gore, who went down with a knee injury.  Gore’s five-game 100 yard rushing streak may have ended this game, but the 49ers are still rolling. This was a major victory for San Francisco and proved that their season hasn’t been some miraculous fluke. Newsflash haters: the Niners are here to stay! Offensive help came from David Akers who kicked four field goals to help San Francisco stay on top. Akers had three first half field goals from 36, 52 and 39 yards. Neither team had many rushing yards, the Giants with a total of 93 and the Niners total of 77. The Niners defense intercepted Eli Manning twice, and this marked its 31st consecutive game without allowing a 100-yard rusher. With Gore out of the picture, quarter back Alex Smith went to work, completing 19 of 30 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown. He connected with at least four different receivers at three completions a piece, including game leading receiver Delanie Walker who had six receptions for 69 yards. Next week the 49ers take on the Arizona Cardinals at the Stick. Can’t wait! ..I’ll be there watching!

NFL Week 9

The Niners win sixth straight against Washington Redskins, now 7-1

The San Francisco 49ers keep rolling with their sixth straight win and a dominate lead in the NFC West. Once again, the defense showed up and helped achieve victory by forcing three turnovers and not allowing a touchdown until the final minutes of the game. They only allowed Washington to get 52 yards on the ground and have not given up a rushing touchdown this season. Running back Frank Gore ran for a franchise record fifth straight 100-yard game, with 107 yards on 19 carries. Kicker David Akers put four through the uprights to help the offense against a tough Redskins defense. In the second quarter the Niners stuck it to them with a 30 yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith to rookie fullback Bruce Miller. Alex Smith completed 17 of 24 passes for 200 yards.

Every week the Niners come out and prove they are here to stay. And every week I find myself writing about how their current win streak hasn’t been accomplished since 10+ years. This weeks win that marks their longest win streak since 1997 and they are 4-0 on the road for the first time since 1992. I don’t hear the critics talking now, saying how their wins were a fluke. The true test will come next week when the 49ers face off against Eli Manning and the New York Giants. It will be a tough game but us Faithfuls believe we will come out on top!

NFL Week 8

The 49ers beat the Cleveland Browns at home 20-10, moving to 6-1.

Another impressive game by 49er running back Frank Gore helped the Niners achieve their fifth straight victory. Gore ran for 134 yards and one touchdown, his fourth straight 125-plus yard game. He moved into second place, passing up Roger Craig on the 49ers career rushing list. The Niners recovered a fumble during the Browns first drive of the game on their 20-yard line. Four plays later Frank Gore marched into the end zone with a 4-yard run, marking his fourth consecutive game with a touchdown. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree also helped the Niner offense with a 2-yard touchdown reception, his first touchdown of the season. Quarterback Alex Smith went 15/24 with 174 yards passing. The Niner defense did their role as usual, with a fumble recovery and one interception. The 49ers led 17-3 at the half. After a scoreless third quarter, the Browns got their first touchdown with a 45-yard reception from Josh Cribbs. The Niners put the nail in the coffin with a 26-yard field goal from David Akers with less than two minutes left in the game.

They currently lead the division, and by the looks of the rest of their schedule, have a good chance to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years. This is the Niners first 6-1 start since 1998…were talking the days of Jerry Rice and Steve Young! Next week the 49ers will play away against the Washington Redskins.

The Oakland Raiders had a bye in week 8. 

NFL Week 7

The Niners had a bye in week 7 but will be back in week 8 to take on the Cleveland Browns at home. 

The Oakland Raiders took on the Kansas City Chiefs in a 28-0 loss at home. 

After Jason Campbell broke his collarbone in a season ending injury last week, there was a frenzy of talks about who would replace him. The final decision was made when the Raiders acquired Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bangles. This week was Palmer’s debut as a Raider, and it was certainly one to forget. Palmer did not start this game, as coaches and Palmer himself did not think he was completely game ready. Instead, backup QB Kyle Boller got his chance to be the starter and showed what he was made of by throwing three interceptions in the first half, the first Raider to do this in 13 years. His first interception was ran back 59 yards for a touchdown and put the Chiefs up 7-0 early in the game.

NFL Week 6

49ers 25-19 victory over the Detroit Lions overshadowed by coaches scuffle.

The Niners win again on the road and break the Lions undefeated record, both teams are now 5-1. The Niners are 5-1 for the first time since 1998, and that accomplishment can be greatly attributed to new head coach Jim Harbaugh. After the game, Harbaugh was pumped about the victory and how much his team has been able to accomplish this season…but maybe he was a little too jacked up. He celebrated with fist pumps and jumps all the way across the field to shake Lion’s head coach Jim Schwartz’ hand. Harbaugh gave Schwartz a firm shake followed by a hard pat on his back and was off to continue his celebration. Schwartz took offense to this gesture and chased after Harbaugh as they made their way to the tunnel.  By looking at the game stats you wouldn’t believe that the Niners were the victors, being called for 15 penalties for 120 yard and two turnovers, while the Lions had no turnovers and only six penalties. But one again the 49er defense was unbeatable. Rookie linebacker Aldon Smith has really brought a lot to this team this season and has helped an already strong defense grow stronger.

NFL Week 5

SF 49ers dominate the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 48-3 blow out.
The Niners Are Now 4-1

New head coach Jim Harbaugh has now led the Niners to four victories this season, the 49ers best start since 2002. Whatever Harbaugh is doing in San Francisco is working and I think all the Niner Faithful’s would agree that it’s about time. Alex Smith has never looked better than he has this season so far, and it might be safe to say it’s because of Harbaugh’s coaching. The Niner defense held the Buccaneers to three point in this lopsided victory! Alex Smith threw for 170 with 3 TD’s, while running back Frank Gore rushed for 125 yards.

The Niners started out strong and didn’t let up the entire game. Alex Smith threw to Delanie Walker for a 26-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Bucs didn’t answer until the end of the first quarter with a 24-yard field goal from Connor Barth, the only score they would put on the board. The Bucs first drive of the second half resulted in an interception by 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers, which he then ran back 31-yards for a touchdown. On the next 49ers possession Frank Gore marched into the end zone for a 2-yard rush. The Niners then capped off the first half with a 37-yard field goal from David Akers. They marched into the locker room leading 24-3, but they were far from being done.

NFL Week 4

Huge come from behind win for the Niner Nation, beating the Philadelphia Eagles on the road 24-23! 

The 49ers now have a two-game lead in the NFC West with their 3-1 record (winning two road games back to back!) The Niners won on Sunday with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Alex Smith finally looked more confident and comfortable with the offense, only turning the ball over on a fumble, which ended up as a scoring opportunity for the Eagles, but still he had the best game of his career!  He went 21-33 with 291 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles scored first with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Michael Vick to Clay Harbor. The Niners responded in their first drive of the second quarter with a 37-yard field goal from David Akers. In the first half, The Eagles dominated the 49ers and made it seem like they were running away with the game. The Eagles scored 16 unanswered points on the Niner defense. Watching the Niners fall behind, all I could hope for was that Vick tripped on his way to the locker room and was out for the remainder of the game…Unfortunately, this did not happen, but something else happened in that 49er locker room at the half. First year head coach Jim Harbaugh must have said something that inspired his team and made them come out in the second half with intensity.

NFL Week 3

VICTORY! for the 49ers and Raiders in week three! Great wins for the Bay Area.

49ers W 13-8: In week 3 of the NFL season, the Niners took on the Cincinnati Bengals. Although it may not have been one of the most exciting games to watch over the weekend, the victory was still thrilling for all the 49er faithfuls. At halftime the Bengals were leading 3-0. After the half the the Niners answered with a field goal of their own. In the fourth the Bengals regained the lead by 3. Niners Rookie Kendall Hunter ran the ball in for the only touchdown of the game, this kid looks promising. The touchdown was followed by a 53 yard field goal from David Akers of the Niners and the game seemed to be over with less than 2 minutes in the fourth and the Niners leading 13-6. The final score of the game came from a safety caused by Niners punter Andy Lee, giving the Bengals 2 points. With no touchdown passes from QB Alex Smith or much productivity from star running back Frank Gore, it was good to see the Niners still pull through with the W. Lets hope the can keep winning even as their schedule gets tougher. The Niners are now 2-1 this season.

NFL Football Week 1 & 2

This post may be a little late, but were gonna talk about week one of the NFL season as well as week two! …Let’s see how our Bay Area teams did…

SF 49ers: Week one of the NFL season started out great for the 49ers. Their 33-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks was an exciting way to start the season, but unfortunately the final score didn’t completely reflect the game. Ted Ginn Jr. was a huge asset the first weekend scoring on kickoff-return and punt-return, which has never been done in the same game on the opening weekend of the NFL season. Without these huge plays on special teams, the score may have been a lot closer.

Week two for the Niners was not as eventful, losing 27-24 to the Dallas Cowboys in overtime. It seemed as though the Niners caught a break when they were leading the game and Tony Romo was out with an injury. But Romo was not out for long and helped the Cowboys come back and tie the game to send it into overtime. The Niners failed to score on their first possession and the game was put away with a Dallas field goal. Even though I’m a 49er Faithful, I gotta give it up to Romo who played with a cracked rib and a punctured lung…beast mode?!

Welcome!

Welcome to my very new blog that will be all about the greatest time of the year, Football Season! …we’re talking American Football here people, not the foot fairy, faking injuries kinda football. I’m hoping to inform all the girls out there of the details of the game. And for all the other girls who are already knowledgable, I hope to keep you updated on current football news and the Bay Area football teams. I will focus on two football teams per week with game summaries and updates, in addition to any exciting news.

There are so many things to learn about the game of football and you would be surprised how much more exciting the game will be after you truly understand. The rules of the game are always changing and they even change from the college level to the NFL level. So, although it may be impossible to know every rule, I believe it is important to learn so that next time the ref throws his little yellow flag on the field you can yell “Off Sides!!” and watch as the men in the room look around with confusion. Trust me, it’s fun to see the look of astonishment on their faces.

The goal of my blog is to inform, update, and entertain. I will have the current news and scores for the Bay Area teams and also top news from all of football. I will also have interviews from the boys who know the game best…the players. I will have interviews from Cal Berkeley Football players as well as San Jose State University players.
