The Golden Anniversary in the Golden State

The votes are in, and the NFL owners have chosen the San Francisco Bay Area to host Super Bowl 50 in 2016. The Golden Anniversary will be held at the new 49ers stadium in Santa Clara, which is set to be completed by the 2014 season.

This will be the first time the Bay Area will host a Super Bowl since 1985. And we all remember what happened then…

STANFORD, CA – Bill Walsh and the 49ers celebrate the 38-16 win over the Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX in 1985.

The NFL owners also awarded Houston with Super Bowl 51 in 2017. Houston last held Super Bowl 38 in 2004, which is remembered for the halftime performance with the infamous Janet Jackson ‘wardrobe malfunction.’

The 49ers organization, and all members of the Bay Area, could not be more thrilled to have this opportunity.

“We are so excited to be able to be able to put on the ‘Golden Super Bowl’ in the Golden State,” 49ers CEO Jed York said.

The Bay Area will surely have a lot to offer fans who travel a great distance for the Super Bowl week festivities. One of the greatest attractions will be the stadium itself.

The new stadium in Santa Clara doesn’t promise to be the biggest and baddest, but it does promise to be the smartest. Located square in the Silicon Valley, Levi’s Stadium will feature many technological advances that no other NFL stadium can claim. One of these new advances is the best publicly accessible WiFi any sports stadium has ever seen. That means 68,500 fans can be connected to the wireless network simultaneously, free to upload and download without limits.

With the development of this large, unheard of WiFi network, the technological possibilities are endless. Some ideas that have been thrown out are apps that allow fans to order food and beverages, instant replays and live game streaming from any seat, and luxury boxes equipped with iPads that would be used to control the entire room.

The San Francisco Bay Area was a clear and obvious choice for owners this time around, since competition with Southern Florida was slim, but hopefully it will be a memorable show that ensures Levi’s Stadium becomes an iconic Super Bowl location.
